Lauren Carmen is a Costume Designer, creator, & story-lover residing in NYC. With a background as a professional ballet dancer, Lauren uses her experience of being onstage & in motion to inform her designs. Drawn to collaborators who are interested in impacting change through beauty (in the many forms it may take), she finds joy in projects driven by music, whimsy & the fantastical, & movement through space, in dance, opera, film, & theatre.
Lauren’s work has been featured in NYC at The Flea, The Joyce, Battery Dance Festival, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Radio City Music Hall, & regionally with Oklahoma City Ballet, the Auditorium Theater (Chicago), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), the American Opera Project, & Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (NC).
On film, her designs featured in How I Learned to Die will premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. Previously, In Passing (2022) premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, featuring Lauren’s costume designs.
An enthusiastic educator, Lauren has filled roles as adjunct faculty, instructor, and guest teaching artist at establishments including Marymount Manhattan College, Pace University, and NYU Tisch Graduate & Undergaduate Design Programs, as well as working with the United Nations International High School. She regularly teaches classes in Costume Design, Costume Construction, and Design for Dance.
